Question: Recommend a quirky teen romance novel?
I loved the movie “Amelie” and the novel “Boy Meets Boy” for their quasi-magical aesthetic and overall quirky cuteness. I’d like to read some young adult/teen lit novels with that same feel, but I’m having trouble finding any. When I try to find books similar to “Boy Meets Boy,” I just keep getting recommendations for other books about gay teens – most of which aren’t nearly as well-written and don’t have the tone I’m looking for at all. And I’ve already read everything else by David Levithan. Can somebody recommend me some more YA books?
If it helps, some other movies I like that fall into this category are “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Big Fish,” and “Garden State.” I really wish I had more books to list as examples! (That’s where you come in… hopefully.)

Confused? romance or erotica? not sure what I am reading?
Question: Confused? romance or erotica? not sure what I am reading?
I am reading the novel ” A rose to the fallen” by April Bostic. I thought I was buying a paranormal romance and when I looked up the book online it was categorized as romance/erotica. I really like the book but now I not sure what to read next? I really like the build up of romance and passion. So does that mean I like a lot of the sex? or just the felling of pure passion? I’m not sure. I could use some help in book suggestions. They can be paranormal or not. I definitely want some action but not right off the bat. I want to fall in love with the characters first. I love some of the YA books but they never go quite as far or in detail with the passion as I would like and definitly no sex in them that is described. So any suggestions would be appreciated since this was the first of this kind of book that I have read. Thanks. Please give me a little description of the book you suggest, that would help me narrow things way down. Thanks again

Try the author CHristine Feehan… she does a good erotic style paranormal with carpathians (vampires) as her heros fighting for their mates… she has a good build up and I really love all of her stuff. She has a web site you can check out.. just google her name.
Lara Adrian is another good one.. her stuff can be REALLY racy so be sure you do like erotic type paranormal for sure in her case.
There are a few others but those two are currently my favorites. Gena Showalter is another.

Question: Books like The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant?
After reading Dunant’s amazing novel “The Birth of Venus,” I’m looking for more books like it. If anyone knows of any novels about the Renaissance in Europe involving art, romance, and a powerful heroine (that’s optional, but usually comes with the package), please share suggestions. (Or any books that you read after or before “Venus” that remind you of it.)
I’ve already read “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” by Tracy Chevliar, as well. That seems to be a popular parallel to it.
Thanks so much!

A “classic” novel of the Renaissance is “The Agony and the Ecstasy: A Biographical Novel of Michelangelo” by Irving Stone. Well-written and very intense (as suits its subject matter).
More recent novels in this genre include:
Jeanne Kalogridis–I, Mona Lisa
Karen Essex–Leonardo’s Swans (on the sisters Isabella and Beatrice d’Este)
A good non-fiction biography of an “infamous” lady is “Lucretia Borgia” by Sarah Bradford.
I hope this helps. Enjoy!
