Does the book “Don Quixote” stand for the idea that people who read lots and lots of fiction are nutjobs?
Question: Does the book “Don Quixote” stand for the idea that people who read lots and lots of fiction are nutjobs?
1. I’m especially thinking that “Don Quixote” condemns the fanatical readers of books such as:
–Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” novels
–Lord of the Ring novels
–Chuck Palahniuk novels
–Nicholas Sparks novels
–Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels
–All romance novels
–All mystery novels
–All Dan Brown novels
–All suspense novels
–All thriller novels
–Chick lit
–Harry Potter books
–Percy Jackson books
–Ayn Rand books
–Tom Clancy books
2. Technically speaking, “Don Quixote” only condemns the reading of novels in the King Arthur genre, with heroic knights, wizards, enchanters, damsels in distress, kings, princes, and all that.
3. But I think Cervantes, the author of “Don Quixote,” was in a sly way really saying that anyone obsessed with the reading and writing of fiction was deluded and was wasting his or her life.
4. Cervantes has his protagonist, Don Quixote (real name: Alonso Quixano) get cured of his obsession with stories, and then promptly DIE of shame and sorrow over how he has wasted his life being so obsessed with make believe fantasies.
5. That’s right! Cervantes KILLS his “hero” to show us his point. NO happy ending there!
6. Cervantes wrote “Don Quixote” as one big “Get a life, dude!” message to humanity, I think.
7. Please bear in mind that the musical “Man of La Mancha” completely misrepresents “Don Quixote.” “Man of La Mancha” was actually based on the idealist heroism of early civil rights activists such as Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King.
Your thoughts, si vous plait.

Before Stephanie Laurens was a New York Times Bestselling author, she was a scientist whose specialty was ovarian cancer research. Now Laurens, along with a group of other romance novelists are shaving 25 cents off the proceeds from the sale of their new books and e-books — up to 000 – and donating the cash to ovarian cancer research. The campaign is called “Kiss & Teal” and it is time perfectly with the kick off of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, which is September. This campaign should raise a heap of money, after all these authors are all romance novel superstars. They have huge fan bases all counting down the time before each new book is released. And that can add up to a good deal of cash. Plus, the authors’ publisher Harper Collins has already donated 000. Want to contribute? Look for romance novels with the “Kiss & Teal” logo. That signifies that that particular book is designated for the additional funds for research. In the video below, Laurens explains her own connection to ovarian cancer, how the program works and why she’s eager to reach that 000 goal. The campaign runs from August 30th 2011 through February 28th, 2012. For more healthy news log onto www.Lifescript.com

Question: where can i find good Science fiction or fantasy series with action, humor, romance, lore, and intrigue?
yeah i love reading and i love reading series books. 1 shots are kickass all the same its just i like the continued aspect of a book series. it would be great to get suggestions. as much as i like books with some action i apreciate character development as well as character interaction more so then explosions and stuff. i also love books that create their own worlds and mythology. and i like strong yet humanistic leads. with a good onslaught of companions would be cool aswell. as girly as it sounds i like romance in my books, not like “romance novels” just you know, something that fleshes the characters out more. some romantic intrigue lets me care about the character more and cheer him on. and it adds to humor more often. it would be cool dudes and dudettes if you could point me in the right direction.

The Saga of Recluce series by L.E. Modesitt
The Corean Chronicles by L.E. Modesitt
The Farseer and Tawny Man series by Robin Hobb
The Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson (long and dark books, but very good)
The Riddlemaster of Hed trilogy by Patricia McKillip
The Earth-Sea series by Ursula Leguin
The Lon-Tobyn Chronicles by David B Coe
Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series by Tad Williams
Pip and Flinx series by Alan Dean Foster
Raymond E Feist’s Riftwar series <--------- Try this one first.
All of these are great and I'm sure you will like most of them. Although I do have to say Modesitt's books are more thought provoking then character development based.
